Expert Dialogue on Design Advisery Boards

Construction Frenzy versus Building Culture in the Lake Landscape
Seeschloss Kammer, 2022

At the heart of the architecture gathering at Seeschloss Kammer was the question of how to deal with the increasing construction activity in the sensitive landscape of the Salzkammergut. Under the title “Construction Frenzy versus Building Culture,” we discussed the challenges and possible approaches to shaping future-oriented building practices that respect both natural space and cultural identity.

The aim of the event was to create a space for dialogue between architects, public administration, politics, and civil society in order to develop strategies that are both locally rooted and culturally responsible.

Key topics included:

  • Building culture as a societal and cultural responsibility

  • Managing development pressure in areas with limited space

  • Preserving and valuing regional identity and landscape

  • Involving the public in planning processes

  • Design advisory boards as instruments of quality and dialogue

I facilitated the dialogue process with a focus on deep listening, systems thinking, and collective intelligence. My role was to create a space where tensions between different interests could be addressed productively and meaningful connections could emerge. My contribution was seen by many participants as a valuable impulse for the future development of building culture in the region.

The many positive feedbacks from our participants clearly show that the professional, empathic facilitation and the co-design of the concept by Ursula Hillbrand have contributed to the success of our networking meetings; for this reason, I always look forward when I get to work with Ursula Hillbrand and her team.
